TIME OUT OF MIND - Synopsis

After the credits end, the film begins, and we are introduced to Jerry, a known drug and gambling addict. Jerry lives in a rundown flat in West London with his daughter, Cassie. Cassie, similarly to Jerry, has grown up on the wrong side of the tracks. She has been kicked out of school due to poor attainment and spends her days dossing about with her friends and boyfriend.
Jerry is the type of person who gets great pleasure out of taking risks (through use of flashback, we discover what sort of risks these are). Due to his compulsive gambling nature, he tries to get a poker game going, but due to his past and his reputation, everybody he goes to ends up turning him down. Jerry is then told, by a friend of a friend, about Izabella, a notorious mob boss who operates in and around West London. He is told that she has heard about him, and that, for better or worse, she has agreed to a game of poker with him.
They meet at a pub at night. After the initial pleasantries, the game begins. Jerry starts off betting small, but with a man like Jerry, betting small doesn’t last long. Eventually, Jerry ends up betting five million. Izabella, knowing instinctively that the game is going to conclude with her victorious, gives Jerry a chance to get out and give up. Jerry refuses, and, as a result of his stupidity, he ends up losing the game.
Shortly thereafter, Izabella begins hounding Jerry for her money. She sends some of her people over to one of his haunts in order to get the money from him, but he, of course, does not have it.
Izabella, growing tired and frustrated of him, kidnaps Cassie. Cassie attempts to escape numerous times, but Izabella foils her every attempt.
Jerry, fearing greatly for his daughter’s life, tries to find people who know Izabella in order to get Cassie back. He manages to wrangle together half of the money he owes her as a bargaining method.
Eventually, Jerry meets Ricardo, a pimp and one of Izabella’s ex boyfriends. After Jerry tells him his story and the situation, Ricardo agrees to help him find Cassie, not least because he wants to settle a score with Izabella (we do not know what exactly the score is, but we know, at the very least, that their split was not amicable).
They track Izabella down. A confrontation ensues. She is killed in cold blood by Ricardo. Cassie returns to her father, but she is forever changed due to her experience with Izabella.
The End.
